WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BRISBANE'S ART SCENE THIS MONTH

Brisbane’s art scene is certainly not one to skip out on. Built on the foundations of GoMA, Queensland Art Gallery and Brisbane Powerhouse, the city has a plethora of boutique galleries with uniquely curated exhibitions from both local and international artists annually. Having exhibited the likes of Andy Warhol in 2007, Cindy Sherman in 2016, Yayoi Kusama in 2018, and Monet this year, over the years, it is no surprise that the this international artist coming to town in 2023 is no exception to the calibre of work Brisbane has seen.

If you haven’t already heard and secured your tickets, internationally renowned and notably pseudonymous artist, Banksy, is bringing to this vibrant town his The Art Of Banksy “Without Limits” Exhibition. This is the first Banksy exhibition to grace Brisbane’s streets, or more specifically the ground floor of Queens Plaza, cementing Brisbane as a dynamic home to international art.

You really cannot mention the words street art without Banksy’s name arising in the conservation, he truly is one of the most well-known and established artists globally in both this genre and the entire art community itself. Banksy is indisputably the most famous graffiti artist the world has seen. His upcoming exhibition showcases over 150 of his works, in new and exciting ways, propelling Brisbane once again as an art destination not to be overlooked.

“Without Limits” features a variety of experiences and displays of Banksy’s work, from a room full of mirrors deemed the Infinity Room, to a stimulation display of the artists largest work “Dismaland”.

Banksy’s exhibition coincides perfectly with Brisbane’s 2023 Street Art Festival (BSAF). This year’s event showcases artists from across the globe, giving new life to some of Brisbane’s iconic locations through public art displays, exhibitions and experiences.
